Radon Testing
Radon is a silent, invisible, and odorless gas that could be present in a home without the homeowner even realizing it. Radon exposure is linked to approximately 21,000 lung cancer deaths annually in the U.S. It is the second leading cause of lung cancer in our country. Every home, regardless of age, construction type, or location, could be at risk. In Illinois over 40% of all homes tested have radon levels that exceed the EPA’s recommended action level of 4.0 pCi/L. As a homebuyer, testing for radon gives you the opportunity to ask the seller to mitigate if the home exceeds the EPA’s recommended action level.

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that forms from the breakdown of uranium in soil and rock. It is odorless, colorless, and tasteless, which means it cannot be detected without proper testing. Over time, radon can accumulate inside a home and pose serious health risks. In fact, the EPA identifies radon as the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States.
Because radon levels vary from home to home, testing is the only way to know if your property is affected. A radon test provides peace of mind and, if high levels are found, gives you the opportunity to address the issue through mitigation.
